Odilon Redon: L'expo (RMN ARTS DU 20E EXPOSITIONS) Details

Published on the occasion of the largest ever Odilon Redon retrospective, held at the Grand Palais in Paris in the spring of 2011, this chunky but pocketbook-size paperback volume reproduces all 256 artworks included in the landmark exhibition. It begins with Redon’s “Self-Portrait” of 1867 and then examines his famous suites of lithographs, including Dans le Rêve and the classic illustrations to Poe, Huysmans and Flaubert. All of the great pastels and oils are here, in full color, as well as lesser-known works like painted screens; throughout, each of the works is accompanied by the captions used in the exhibition, which provide details of provenance and, where relevant, edition size.

Reviews

Yes this a smaller format book, but the printing quality is superb,I have most of the extant books on the artist, yet this one is for sure very very worthy. The black works are the best representation I have ever seen, they are shot in color so they come to life like I have never seen before you can see so much more, paper color nuances etc., the actual color works here, paintings etc. are tremendous, there are several hundred illus. all beautiful. I know it is digest sized, but very thick and abundant,if you do not purchase this book, you are making a mistake, it is one of the best on Odilon Redon. Get two copies as you will want for continual use and one for later, it's that great.
